A letter to "X"

One of the really kewl things about being in my "position", is the fact that I often
get to meet new flakers before others on the Slopes do.  Operating MisterX.ca, &
having a Mailing List to boot, means that I sometimes get letters from "strangers"
that are most entertaining.  I thought it would be fun to share one of these many
emails with YOU.  Please help me welcome Janis to Flakeville.  I am SURE she'll
fit in JUST FINE here!  ;)   "X"

To Mr. X,

I have recently joined the mania called SnowDays. I am intrigued by
the creativity, vastness, and diversity of this deceptively simple
site.  I am disabled, became bored with TV and got a laptop computer
as a gift.  I hadn't really bonded with the technology beyond
endlessly looking up inane facts, until one day I was e-mailed a
flake.  The interaction enthralled me like nothing else on the web.
I'm not one for chat rooms, although I've tried it.  I even tried on-
line dating.  What a disaster!   If I want to "hook up", I have 4 bars in
walking distance. It seems to have all the things I want out of a web
site, all rolled into one.  I guess the last, best attribute is the
anonymity.

I have two hindrances that you may or may not address in this forum.
I own a 13' Mac book.  I understand and accept that I will not be able
to increase my abilities by using Internet Explorer 7 to make use of
the alt key and the zoom feature. The other thing is, my auto fill and
spell checker don't seem to work on the Popular Front site.  And I say,
"Oh well!", because I really enjoy making flakes and interacting with
flakers.  If in the future this can be rectified, so be it.  Right now
I am reveling in the fact that computers may not just be a passing
fad like I originally thought.

A post script may be that today I found out that a close friend of
mine is gravely ill and may not live.  I made a flake for her and many
people responded with advice, kind thoughts and prayers.  It means so
much to me, being on my own, to have support from so many.

I will continue to make my flakes and respond to others with short,
but hopefully witty retorts.  They may not be the most exciting, I may
not win any ripple contests, and my spelling will be atrocious.

Flake on.

Dear Janis...

I am most DELIGHTED to welcome you to the wonderful world of FLAKING, and also to
the wonderful COMMUNITY that we flakers have built for ourselves here in Flakeville.

The "Slopes" are NOT just about being creative and dazzling fellow "citizens" with our
flakey masterpieces that are made there, they are also about SUPPORT, and SHARING,
and CARING, and meeting MANY people from around the GLOBE while we do!

It is a totally UNIQUE way to be artistic, AND sociable, and I am sure I speak for MANY
others when I tell you you are most WELCOME here!  Enjoy your stay.  The rest of us
will be enjoying YOUR company!  :)))))
