| How
did it come to be, and WHY? The ZERO GAME has a rather interesting
story to how it came to life and became the "Biggest & Bestest" contest
for flakers EVER.
I don't really know how I came to actually make the original Zero Game, but I know it had a LOT to do with witnessing the scramble for flake number 1,000,000. This was the first time that several flakers actually "competed" to get a flake number, and it was an event that any flaker who participated in it will never forget. The Slopes suddenly changed from a relaXing, art induced 'slumber land', to an energy charged atmosphere of flakers tripping over themselves to get a single flake number! I myself almost had a fatal while trying for the number! I couldn't believe how my heart was pumping faster and faster as the BIG flake approached, LOL! It seems silly, I know, but there is just something "special" that the Slopes offer when that competitive aspect is added to the equation. So I managed to somehow devise a contest out of it all. I wanted to see if that "special feeling" could be duplicated "artificially". The first contest offered no prize, "x"cept the title of "Zero Hero", and to my surprise it was very successful. It revolved around getting flakes with at least 2 zeros at the end of them. The more zeros, the more points. To my surprise there were OBVIOUS "avalanches" at each of these numbers, as flakers once again flooded the slopes with their attempted "entries". I have to say that seeing the numbers on the Slopes being effected drastically because of something I was doing was truly satisfying...(and apparently addictive!). After seeing the effects the Zero Game had on the flakers and Flakeville alike, I hosted a second, and then a third Zero Game. Each game sort of "evolved" and the rules and point values changed accordingly. I also started taking in donations here at MisterX.ca, and that allowed me to offer cash prizes. This was a BIG factor in the participation of the newer games, and also in how many flakes were added to the flake counter at SnowDays. I had sort of "stumbled" onto a fantastic way to make SnowDays more "successful", and also add a new "fun factor" to the flakers of the Slopes at the same time. What could be better? The Zero Game has now seen 4 individual versions, and I am very proud to announce that each has been more successful than the last. Each has been slightly different in the game play, but the result has been identical. MANY flakers coming together for a friendly, fun competition, while our beloved SnowDays benefits in the creation of THOUSANDS of "x"tra flakes. The Zero Game is an event unto itself, and however it came to be, is certainly a welcome event to all :) The flakers like it, Popular Front likes it, and as I mentioned, I certainly enjoy seeing all these flakes created because of something I organised! :D |
