UPDATE!
Yay!
Mrs."X" & I have arrived in Campbell River safely and are currently
unpacking our boXes (still). We arrived at the end of February, but
had no house to move into due
to
some unforeseen difficulties (it's a long story). As luck would have
it, my sister and her hubby moved from Calgary to Campbell River at the
SAME TIME we did, so Mrs."X"
and
I lived with them in their new home for a week before we could move into
our new place here. Funny how things work out, isn't it? Anyway,
the 4 of us got to do the scary
drive
through the Rocky Mountains during winter together. We made it through
just in time, as the very neXt day over a foot of snow fell and the highway
was closed down after
someone
was killed on it when their vehicle slid off a cliff. Likewise, we
got through Vancouver just before another huge dump of snow fell there,
causing chaos and dozens of
accidents,
also resulting in the main highway being closed down. It was a very
uneventful drive for us though, with the roads being in mostly good condition
for the 2 day trip.
FROM
CALGARY WE HEADED WEST TOWARDS THE ROCKIES. IT IS ONLY ABOUT A 45
MINUTE DRIVE UNTIL YOU HIT THE MOUNTAINS.
FROM
THEN ON, THE ENTIRE TRIP IS THROUGH MOUNTAINS, OFTEN ON LESS THAN DESIRABLE
ROADS! WE SPENT THE NIGHT IN KAM-
LOOPS,
THEN HEADED SOUTH ON THE NUMBER 5 HIGHWAY. THIS IS WHERE WE JUST
MISSED A HUGE SNOW STORM. WHEN THE ROAD
GETS
CLOSE TO THE US BORDER, IT IS FAIRLY STRAIGHT UNTIL VANCOUVER. HERE
WE MISSED ANOTHER BIG STORM. FROM VAN-
COUVER
WE TOOK A FERRY TO VANCOUVER ISLAND, WHERE WE HEADED BACK NORTH FOR ANOTHER
FEW HOURS UNTIL ARRIVING IN CR.
So
I'm hoping to NEVER have to do that drive again. From now on I'm
flying everywhere! The drive is bad enough in the summer time, never
mind the winter. Just wanted
to
let everyone know that I'm still alive and doing well in my fabulous new
location :D I will try and find time to take some pictures of the
new house n' such soon and will be
posting
them here for all to see ;) STAY TUNED! "X" March
