After
nearly two years of flaking, I am delighted and amazed at these "x"quisite
directions for making straight lines.
FINALLY
the straight line is accessible to ALL flakers!
As
I "x"plained in the original Straight Lines directions located HERE,
it is possible to cut perfectly straight horizontal & vertical lines
freehand.
Many
flakers didn't believe me, (and probably still don't), however I
am "x"tatic to see that there are now many flakers who have actually grasped
this
concept and style and are now doing it. They have PROVEN that I am
not a liar and it can actually be done. Furthermore, I believe it
is important for all serious flakers to try and "get" this technique, as
I believe it is still the only way to get REAL 90 degree angles,
(but this is a topic to be covered later).
That
technique, however, is only good for horizontal and vertical lines and
doesn't work with lines on other angles in between. The only way
I
have
found to do these "other" lines perfectly straight (freehand) is by "scribbling"
them, and you can't get much accuracy doing it that way.
THIS
newer technique will allow a flaker to make a perfectly straight cut in
ANY direction. It will also take a little practice at first, but
with some "x"perience actually becomes quite easy. You can use the
"cheat" of measuring and marking your triangle and get SUPERB geometric
flakes that
look
like they were created by a computer! Once again the possibilities
are endless, and are only limited by your imagination!
I
GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!
This
technique was first discovered, (or at least 1st described), by the flaker
MARK SIX. I invited MARK SIX to do the instructions for this page,
but
instead he decided to post them on a flake (#2705432). I have taken
those directions and tried to simplify them here for you.
ALT+TAB, STRAIGHT LINES MADE "EASY"
These
instructions will work if you use Internet "X"plorer. I'm sure they
can also work with all other browsers, but you will have to figure
out
what combination of keys to combine to switch from one window to another.
Please do not ask me what to do in this case, as I have no idea!
Also,
if you are a MAC user, you will have to use the CTRL+F4 keys to switch
back and fourth. (ThanX, L!)
STEP ONE
Open
2 windows of SnowDays. Click on "Make Your Own Flake" in both windows.
(IMPORTANT!
Make sure BOTH windows sit "x"actly on top of each other for easy switching
back & fourth!)
(DO
NOT have any other windows open, at least not to begin with. Technically,
you only need one window of SnowDays open as well as a window of ANYTHING
else, but this can come later when you are an "x"pert with this technique!
Also, you can have more than 2 windows going, but once again,
this
is something that can come later when you are "comfortable" with switching
windows.)
STEP TWO
Make
a mark on window #2's triangle, so it'll be easier to see when you switch
from window 1 to window 2.
(Once
again, not a necessity, but it'll help when you're a beginner at this technique.
Any mark will do, I usually make a small triangle in the center.)
STEP THREE
Window ONE: Click on where you want the start of your line to begin. Do NOT release your mouse button.
STEP FOUR
While
holding down your mouse button, push down on the ALT & TAB keys simultaneously
ONCE and release. This will switch your window to the second
SnowDays
window you have open. (The one with the mark you placed on it.)
STEP FIVE
Move your cursor to where you want your line to stop. Keep holding the mouse button down!
STEP SIX
Now click the ALT & TAB keys simultaneously once again & release. This will bring you back to window #1 and you will see a perfectly straight line between point A & B!
STEP SEVEN
Continue
the above steps until your design is completed. Switch back and fourth
from window to window, holding down the mouse button
during
the completion of your design. You needn't hold down the button the
entire time unless you wish to create a one cut flake. However,
it
is probably easier to do so until you get the "feel" of this wonderful
technique.
STRAIGHT LINES ARE NOW AT YOUR COMMAND!
Any
flakers that have witnessed my GEOMETRIX flakes, or even my SCRIBBLED ONE
CUTS know what kewl and bizarre designs can be
accomplished
with straight lines. Now ALL flakers can do this, with a little patience
and "x"perimentation.
This
is an AMAZING flaking technique that may seem somewhat complicated to begin
with, but will become second nature the more
you
incorporate it into your worX!
Again, MANY thanX to Mark SiX for sharing it with us all!!!

P.S.
Yes,
yes, I know! Normally there are diagrams to help you understand how
to make the specific flake being described. However, in this case,
they wouldn't help much.
Follow
the above directions and you will "see" how it is done! :)
