WHAT IS A LIGHT TABLE?
All flakers that are interested in "tracing" should understand the concept of Light Tables.
Light
Tables are based on an easy principle....
Tracing
is easier when your light source comes from BEHIND the image you're tracing!
Anyone
that has had any sort of training in Art should be familiar with the ol'
Light Table. It is essentially a Drafting Table that
has
light projected from behind it to make tracing much easier.
Light Tables come in a variety of shapes and forms.

Amazingly,
the Light Table concept is readily available to you at home. Because
your monitor is lit from behind,
you
can trace faces, animals, places, etc., from another's flakes or any other
image or images you see while online!
I
have heard of flakers using clear plastic sheets, tracing paper, and blank
white paper to achieve this. Just place
the
medium of your choice on the monitor and trace the desired image onto it.
Once the image has been "captured",
go
to SnowDays and place your image on a creation triangle and carefully cut
out the design. You will be amazed
at
the accuracy and detail on the flakes that you otherwise might not have
been able to create at all.
BONUS! If you use IE7, you can take advantage of the zoom feature it offers and size your creation triangle to fit your image!
Now
that you know your monitor is also a Light Table, take advantage
of
it! "X"perimentation can take you far with this kewl technique and
you
will find yourself asking, "Did I REALLY make that flake?!".
(
KEWL X-NOTE: "LIGHT TABLES" ARE REALLY EVERYWHERE! AS
PM REMINDED ME, EVEN A DOCTOR'S X-RAY DISPLAYER IS A LIGHT TABLE.
GUESS
WHAT ELSE MAKES A GREAT LIGHT TABLE? ANY SUNNY WINDOW IN YOUR HOME
IS AN "X"CELLENT TRACING TOOL! PLACE A CLEAR PIECE
OF
PAPER OVER THE IMAGE YOU WISH TO TRACE, PLACE BOTH PIECES OF PAPER ONTO
YOUR SUNNY WINDOW AND PRESTO, YOU CAN EASILY TRACE IT! )
