Slanted Grids are easier to make than the original is. For one thing, we don't actually have to make any cuts into the flake. The cuts used to make this flake are all done on the outside. It is essentially MANY Star Flakes overlapping each other, so the computer makes the straight lines for us!
Look
up the above flake number at Snowdays to see its animation. Before
starting the below
instructions,
be sure to mark the bottom right and left corners of the triangle as you
will need
to
know their locations and they will be "in the black" for much of the creation
process.
(this
is accomplished by using a marker and drawing dots on the screen or a clear
plastic covering).
Start by making a MELTING STAR |
Work your way up the left side of the flake |
Continue until you are left with a basic STAR FLAKE |
Now make yet another Melting Star, "x"cept this time going up the right side of the flake. |
Use the marked left corner as a reference and chop along the star's side, continuing to make your cuts on the outside of the flake. |
Stop when you meet the Event Horizon. (Any more cuts and the preview flake will become blank.) |
Throw the flake into reverse, as described in Negatives -and+ Positives. Each negative flip will cause the flake to "grow" |
Use your marked right corner to perform the flips and be sure to watch the preview flake. If the design shrinks, hit "undo" and try again! |
The design continues to grow, reaching the right and left marked corners. |
In this case I continue making negative flips until reaching.... |
...the neXt Event Horizon. (any more flips and the flake will turn black) |
Now do positive flips until you reach your desired design. |
