One
day, while I was going through my Super Nova "phase", I accidentally discovered
the Grid flake.
I
was making a Double Nova that started in the center of the triangle with
a horizontal line and
wondered
what would happen if I also put a vertical line into the design.
I
split the horizontal line of the Nova as per normal, and then did the same
to the
vertical
line. I continued by encircling the lines, taking turns back and
fourth
until
there was little left of the flake to chop away. Nothing special
so far.
I
then threw the flake into reverse, and that's when it all happened!
Instead of the design moving
around
the flake like I had "x"pected it to, the design started to contort and
completely change right
before
my eyes. Each reverse flip I made caused the flake to warp a little
bit more. Instead of straight
lines,
which I had used to create the flake, I now had little squares all over
the place that made up the
flake's
design! The end result looked more like a computer had designed the
flake, and the animation
was
AMAZING!
After
I picked my eyeballs up off of the floor and placed them back into my head,
I decided I had
better
see if it was a fluke or if I would be able to duplicate what I had done.
I did it again! Then again
and
again and again! Needless to say, I certainly got my share of comments
on that day of flaking!
Naturally,
MANY flakers wanted to know what I was doing to achieve this "effect".
I was even being
accused
of using some sort of program to do it, (lol! I LOVE it when people
think I have some secret
"thing"
that they are unaware of!).
Describing
how to actually make a Grid is very difficult indeed. So difficult
in fact that the ENTIRE
"Quest
for Grand Master" flaking course was made JUST so people can grasp it!
It is HIGHLY
recommended
that you make sure you have read through the course and performed ALL of
the tricks
located
in it BEFORE you attempt ANY of the following Grid tricks.
Once you have, the Gridology 101 course should be a lot of fun for you : )
