FLAKE RECONSTRUCTION
by "X"

PAGE ONE
THE THREE MAJOR TECHNIXES

* PLEASE NOTE *
This page displays POSITIVE & NEGATIVE cuts as they were made with the original Snowdays program.
Although all the reconstruction techniXes described on this page STILL WORK, the new flaking program
uses different techniXes for flippin flakes.  You should learn these new techniXes by clicking HERE 1st.

Over the years, three very distinct techniXes have emerged for reconstructing a flake.  Equally
as important as any of the triX, FLAKE RECONSTRUCTION allows you to "replace" the pieces
you have chopped out and make them white once again.  That's only the beginning.  If you are
into making flakes that flash or are otherwise animated, then flake reconstruction is for YOU!!!

The THREE TECHNIXES are:
-------------------------------------------

FIBER OPTIX  - Discovered by L

MEGA STARZ - Discovered by PM

XENITH FLIPS - Discovered by X

To keep things simple, lets just make a basic
"white on white" Star Flake with each technique
so we can see how differently it can be done :)

EACH TECHNIQUE WILL START THE SAME, BY MAKING A SIMPLE BLACK STAR AS SHOWN.

EACH TECHNIQUE COULD ALSO BE DONE IN REVERSE, STARTING WITH A WHITE STAR ON
A BLACK BACKGROUND, BUT I HAVE CHOSEN THE ABOVE FOR SIMPLICITY IN THIS SECTION.

FIBER OPTIX - Discovered by L

S T E P   O N E  :

Make a black star.

S T E P   T W O  :

Turn the flake negative.

S T E P   T H R E E  :

Make a cut into the negative area as shown and the design is achieved.

MEGA STARZ - Discovered by PM

S T E P   O N E  :

Make a black star.

S T E P   T W O  :

Make a cut into the white area as shown.

S T E P   T H R E E  :

Turn the flake negative and the design is achieved.

XENITH FLIPS - Discovered by X

S T E P   O N E  :

Make a black star.

S T E P   T W O  :

Make a NEGATIVE CUT as shown, and achieve the desired design in only 2 steps!

Although each technique was started with the "x"act same cut, they got to the final design in much different
ways.  FIBER OPTIX and MEGA STARZ may seem very similar, but they are NOT! The differences between the
two are most apparent when more complicated designs are seen unfolding at SnowDays.  Personally, I use
all three techniXes on a regular basis when making animated flakes because of the different unfolding effeX.

After the initial black star is created, here is what each technique does...

FIBER OPTIX:
Makes the entire flake negative, then turns part of that negative into a positive.
MEGA STARZ:
Cuts out another black space and turns the entire flake negative.
XENITH FLIPS:
Turns a part of the original black star design negative, achieving the design with one less step.

UNDERSTANDING THE 3 DIFFERENT TECHNIXES.
In the future I will discuss these 3 techniXes in further detail and "x"plain to you how they work.
It's all about making NEGATIVES-&+POSITIVES and understanding their MANY DIMENSIONS.

Once you are familiar with both, the neXt section will be a breeze.

Here's a sneak peek at the direction we will be going!   ;)
