Like many flaking techniques, animating a specific item can be accomplished in various different ways.  "X"perimenting with flashing individual parts of a flake is fun and very satisfying when you watch your flake unfold to reveal your "mini movie".

BS has made many of these animated flakes and has been so kind as to describe how one of them was created by providing these most "x"cellent diagrams and directions.
