- × -  has made some MAJOR contributions to the world of flaking.  Hmmmm, where shall I begin?  Oh, I know...how about at the beginning?!   - × -   I "met"  at the Snowflake Maker's Group shortly after I joined.  She was VERY interested in how I made my straight lines and is at least partially responsible for me making my 1st "how'd you do that" posting there.  After I started playing around with movement and animation,  was the first one "knocking at the door" to find out what I did to achieve the effect.  When I discovered Grid flakes, 's "enthusiasm" almost gave me a panic attack as I tried (mostly in vane) to describe the process involved and "x"plain them!!!   - × -    Naturally, I ended up posting a LOT of instructions at the Group, so many in fact, that I decided I had better start up my own site so I would have the "room" to post more.   REALLY made me aware of the need to have a place to post all the things I had discovered and her influence on me making MisterX.ca should be quite apparent.    - × -   has always been a quick study for learning other people's techniques, flaking seems to come quite naturally to her.  She has been on the front lines of new flaking styles and techniques for quite some time now and I MUST say how IMPRESSED I am with her originality and ingenuity.   - × -    If there were such a thing,  would go down in Flakey History for several different reasons.  TRACING:  I was astounded to learn that  actually traces images onto her snowflakes!  She discovered that she couldn't draw  faces very well, so used a clear sheet of plastic to trace a face from a picture, then taped the plastic onto her monitor and traced the face with her mouse. INGENIOUS!!!  FLAKING 'IN THE DARK':'s 1st attempts of flaking in the dark gave us her now famous PULSARS, where a flake pauses between 2 different designs.  Then we got her INFLATABLE STARZ which also uses an "in the dark" step to achieve a growing star effect.  And of course, the FIBER OPTIC PRINCESS flakes have a stage where an entire face (or other pic) is drawn in the dark for an amazing unfolding FLAKE RECONSTRUCTION:'s FIBER OPTIX is an incredible technique for rebuilding flakes.  It had eluded me for months, as I tried to figure it out because I KNEW the Snowdays program would allow for it, I just couldn't figure out how to accomplish it.  BRAVO & a big personal THANX to  for figuring that out before I went completely loopy, lol!  What fun it has been to share and trade tips'n'triX with  .  She is a very clever and VERY talented flaker.  If there is something that  wants to accomplish on a flake, she will indubitably find a way to make it happen!  It is a real pleasure for me to Feature her here :)   - × -

"X"POSED!!!

Your snowflake alias, (as you'd like it to appear on MisterX.ca):

If your alias is different than your actual name, would you like your real name to be displayed as well? If so, please enter what you would like to appear on the site:    Lorraine

Where are you from?:  Maryland

What gender are you (M/F)?:   F

Would you like your age displayed? If so, please provide:   Whew, you ask some tough questions! I have three adult children, one grandson, a husband, a cat, and a dog. You can figure it out from there. LOL!

Would you like to leave any other personal information, such as home life or work?:  I'm a violinist. I have a home studio with about twenty hours a week of private violin and viola students. I also play in two professional orchestras, and play for many weddings, receptions, social events, etc. I'm the editor of a small music journal, which I put together three times a year in InDesign. My husband and I have a dog, a cat, a Dodge Ram 1500 truck, and a yellow Miata, which is my pride and joy. That may sound like a lot, but it's not. That's why I have so much time to spend making flakes. Oh, and I don't watch TV!

How long have you been flaking?:  Since December 31, 2004. Aaaargh!!!

Do you have a favorite style of flake?:  Not really. I love the magic of the Popular Front Snowflakemaker, which turns even the strangest scribbles into works of art.

How would you best describe your own flakes and style?  Hmm. I have several styles, which have evolved over the year I've been flaking. There were at first the flakes which resembled actual snowflakes, plus a few animals, then flashers, which I became obsessed with after I found out how to do them. Then flakes with reversals. Then faces. From those jumping-off points, I've tried to make up some new techniques, which are the reason I keep sitting in front of this computer after all my work is done. Housework? Dishes? What are those?

Is there a message or anything else that you would like to be mentioned on your page?  Warning: Making flakes is addictive! It's also a nice way to meet some really nice people in cyber-space. Perhaps these flake friendships can result in an actual meeting!  Another flaker and I actually got together last year for a nice lunch; it turns out we only live about twenty-five miles from each other. Another flaker and I discovered her husband knew an older relative of mine from years back. Some important advice for new flakers who may encounter some unsavory remarks on flakes from time to time: ignore these! Treat them as comic relief, and then forget them. Enjoy flaking! This is such a cool site for people who can't get out and about easily. Also, for those folks who never thought they had an ounce of artistic ability, Sn*wDays can turn your most pathetic scribbles into works of art! Flake on, everyone! Hooray for Popular Front! Hooray for MisterX!

And "HOORAY" for  for her support, humor, inventiveness, and friendship!
(and thanX for being a BIG part of MisterX.ca!)
