( A CONCEPT THAT WAS CONCEIVED AND REALIZED  by :   CARMELINA/UK  -  BERNADETTE/AUS  -  DIANNE/USA )

How kewl is Flakeville?  A truly international community of "flakers" that come together for
friendship and artistry.  With new folks on the Slopes regularly, it continuously helps make
fabulous new friendships unfold, and thus new ideas and thoughts are shared and realized
in this ever changing community.  Here is the story of such an event, as told by Dianne, a
participant in the now completed "Flakeville Friendship Quilt" project.  I am thrilled to be
able to display the information and the actual "quilt" here at MisterX, thanX Ladies!  :D

THE STORY OF THE
FLAKEVILLE FRIENDSHIP QUILT
as told by DIANNE / LAWTON, MI

What started out as a single flake (# 6088664), made by Carmelina (UK) on January 21, 2008, and (in her words) "My one flippant comment", has become the symbol of what making a simple snowflake means to so many who gather here. Not only is this hobby a creative outlet with so many beautiful works of art, for many it is, "Works of Heart"!

In less than one month Carmelina's dream, of seeing flakes made by so many flaker friends, side by side, has become a Dream Come True!

What started out to be just a few flakes, soon became a project beyond our wildest dreams.  In one week, the word spread and 91 flakers responded with their contributions to what was to become known as the "Flakeville Friendship Quilt".

Carmelina & Dianne worked very hard compiling lists of just about every statistic available on the project.  We appreciate everyone's patience, but decided that we wanted to present the whole package, quilt, video and information, at once.

Quilt Flakes came in from 8 countries: The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Turkey, New Zealand and Serbia!

28 of the 50 United States is represented:  Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia & Wisconsin!

91 Flaker Friends participated (in alphabetical order): Amanda (OH), Amber (TX), Amethyste (Canada), Andie (KY), Artx, Bam (TX), Barb M. (CO), Barbie (MI), Bernadette (Australia), Bill (TN), Carmelina (UK), Carolyn (TN), Cathy (PF), Cathy (TN), Cheerytoes, Cherokeemoon (OK), Chimera (Turkey), Christmas Rose (CA), Connie (VA), Dana (NC), Dave (NZ), Debby (UT), Dianne (MI), Donna (NZ), Doris (CO), Dovey (CA), Dragonminx (OH), ELW (NY), Emmi (UK), Ferne (Canada), Fujimo (TX), G (ME), G'VA (TX), Goldberry (UK), Grammi (PA), Heartmart (AK), Holly (OH), Hope (MI), Hyacinth (Germany), Jacqueline (MA), Jan (Australia), Jan (MI), Janet (UK), Janis (MN), Jeanne (TN), Jenny (QMB), Jim (IL), Josie (NZ), Kathryn (FL), Kathy (PA), Kathy (MO), Katlyn (CA), Ladychiara (Australia), Larreen (IL), Larry (PA), Linda (NJ), Lorene (OR), Lucky (UT), Luke (MI), MB (CO), Marci (PA), Miss Lacy, Nancy (WV), Nelle (Serbia), Norma (TX), Nutty (IL), Patricia (NY), Patsy, Peggy (FL), Peggy (TN), Rainbow Brite, Ree (NC), Ria (IL), Roberta (MO), Rosalinda (TX), Shalina, Snocat (AK), Snow Imp, Snowlady, Starz (WI), Strz (IA), SusieQ1 (WV), Suzanne (Canada), Sweetpea (CA), Taylor (MI), Tommy (LA, USA), Toni (UK), Vicki Sunshine (FL), Vernita (AK), X (Canada) and Yvonne (UK)!

3 of the quilt flakes came from Jr. Flakers:  Taylor (5),  Sweetpea (8) and Luke (9)!

Many flaker friends contributed several quilt flakes.  Because of the overwhelming response, a decision was made to put 2 flakes from each flaker friend on the quilt.  In all a total of 242 flakes were sent in!  Each flake was 'captured' on the screen. It then had to be cropped & saved.  After this long process, and many test samples, Bernadette rose to the occasion and placed the flakes on a black background.

When Bernadette was nearly finished, she decided to surprise us with a special tribute.  She compiled a video, set to music, featuring one flake from each flaker friend!  She did an exceptional job of selecting the music.  The video opens to the theme from "Cheers"...where everybody knows your name (or flaker name here).  This is followed by the South Australian Orchestra's version of "Waltzing Matilda" in tribute to Carmelina. (Matilda is Bernadette's nickname for her). Also included in the musical tribute is an Australian tune named, "Click Go The Shears"!  How appropriate!!!

There is no way to express how wonderful this project was.  Thanks to YOU... The Friends of Flakeville!   Thank you, not only for your participation, but for your patience as we put it all together.

Carmelina, Bernadette & Dianne

(A final thank you from Carmelina . . .)

I have entrusted all the details of my dream to Dianne and she has written it all up for me.  I'm not doing all the final bits as I don't feel up to it at the moment. Even though I know that I will regret handing it over, but I feel that I won't do it justice at this time. So I fully trust Dianne to do it for me.  So all that remains for me to say is thank you ALL, for making my dream come true! And great thanks to my dear friends, Bernadette for making it come to life, and Dianne for helping me with all of your flakes and helping Bernadette too. I'd like to thank all the flakers that have taken part and to those who didn't, I hope that you will enjoy it too!

The Flakeville Friendship Quilt is there to wrap around us all when we need it. It shows us all, side by side, and it is my way of giving you all a hug back, as some of you have given me hugs when I have needed them.  I thank you for them. Take care and enjoy! Thank you Bernadette & Dianne for all your help in doing this for me and everyone else who made my dream a reality.

Love to you all,
Carmelina
