The CRUEL DEATH of a HAPPY FLAKE.

(the "HAPPY FLAKE")

Ahhhhh, isn't that one of the happiest flakes you have ever seen?  I thought so too, but after it started as a woman, then turned into a boy, then afterwards finally was manufactured into the flake you see above, I went to release it to "the masses" only to learn that the worst fate possible had occurred.

...The SNOWDAYS program froze, leaving me with the window you see below:

I waited and waited for the flake number to appear, but to no avail.  The arrow didn't come and I was left staring at this smiling snowflake, wondering what to do neXt.  In the "olden days" when this would happen, one could click on the "close" button and often it would assign your flake its proper number and would continue as per normal.  However, this time, (and several others previous to posting this), I have the problem of the program NOT doing this and instead, assigning my new flake with the flake number of the previously made flake done by me >: (

Now I have seen my share of SNOWDAYS "glitches" in the past, (once upon a time, Marilyn sent me a flake she had made for me, and when I punched the number into the search engine, 4 fully opened flakes fell from the sky all at once!), but when one spends 20 minutes or more on a single flake, it is disheartening, to say the least, when you see all that work was for NOTHING!  I am in the position to bring this flake "back to life" here at MisterX.ca, however, we all know it is technically "DEAD" because it is NOT in the permanent memory of the SNOWDAYS program.  : (

WOW!  MANY of you sent your heart felt condolences and comments about similar "X"periences you have had.
The "Happy Flake" has gained a "new life" thanX to you all!  His "twin" has even been spotted floating around
in the skies of SNOWDAYS (click HERE).  I will forward this page to the folks at Popular Front so they are aware
of the "problem", (no need for you to inform them!).  It should be noted that the Popular Front team have MANY
projects in the worX, and most likely will not be able to attend to this immediately, however, I am confident that
they will look into it on their neXt scheduled maintenance of SNOWDAYS.
(see the comments on the bottom of this page for more info. about this)  :)

MARILYN - May 25, 2006
Dear Mister X,
Please accept my most heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Innocent Happy Flake.  Please take some solace in your happy memories.  It is fortunate that you are able to look back at the screen shot and remember with bittersweet fondness the time you spent together.  Innocent Happy Flake went through many transitions which I'm sure your realize were all to your credit.  You made Innocent the Happy Flake that she/he/he was.  It is so sad that Innocent never got to drift down from the skies with the other flakes.  Flakeville is a lesser place for never having known her/him/him!
Wuv,
Marilyn
LOL- Hilarious!  ThanX Marilyn!  I feel much better now!  -X-

AMANDA / AUSTRALIA - May 25, 2006
R.I.P Happy Flake!
Similar things have happened to me with flakes disappearing...although I've not paid much attention to it at the time.  I have also had the 'odd' flake or four falling when searching for a flake....and the programme freezing is a common occurrence (taking 2 hours to create a 15 ripple flake was a wee bit eXtreme).  More recently I was most eXcited to have received notification that X had made ME a flake only to find it was in fact made for Marilyn....gorgeous flake by the way!
Not being all that familiar with the flaking programme I've not really paid much attention to the glitches but will do so in the future!

Keep watching your mail, Amanda.  Maybe that "X" flake made JUST FOR YOU will appear!  -X-

RIA - May 25, 2006
Yes, Yes and Yes...this has happened to me many times.....too many to mention...what I found out is that after you make a flake....you must wait until the number on your last flake is "gone" off the page.....moved on in other words......and make sure the new number is a few numbers ahead of the last one you made.....if the page is very slow....this is what happens...the numbers don't move fast enough and it freezes and you have wasted all that time and effort..and it is assigned the number of your last flake...but the last flake is the one that stays on PopFront......I never did think to report this.....I figured it was just me making the flakes too fast one after another.....oh well,,,,,I am so sorry this happened to you X...but I am sure you can bring it back to life here on your site.....It is a fabulously cut flake!!!...so glad I logged on now to view this email....We have our grandson for the summer and I am so busy....God bless......Ria
Yes Ria, I have found out the same thing.  You MUST wait to create your neXt flake until the numbers have increased.  If you do not, then there is the BIG chance of this happening.  However, sometimes I get into a "flake making frenzy" and forget to do so!  Big hugz to you and your grandson :)   -X-

Oh, X, I am so sorry!  What a neat-o flake to be subjected to such a cruel fate...(sob, sob)...  This has happened to me at times, too!  What a clever lad you are to think of capturing it with a screen shot.  Flake forward on, o fearless one!!
With deepest sympathy,

ThanX so much, L.  Your Happy Flake twin made me feel a lot better!  :DDDDDDD <- <- <-   -X-

Hi X!!
Aww X!! I am so sorry at the loss of your happy flake!! He's so cute too! I have lost many a beautiful flake due to snowdays glitches! :( Also one day last week had two #'s assigned to the same flake! twins!!  :)
You have my deepest sympathy!    *NUTTY*
Wow Nutty, I never had THAT happen before!  I wonder if both numbers directed you to the SAME flake?  ThanX so much for your "sympathy", it is surprising how much better I feel when people feel sorry for me!  lol!   -X-

NORMA / TEXAS - May 25, 2006
Mister X, that is the saddest story I have heard. Yes it has happened to me a few times. I have lost some that I thought might be my best ones like that. I have also had it to shoot out several that said it was mine which I had never made, someone else had made them. Your happy flake was very good. We can enjoy it this way. Have fun & don't be too sad on it not being there for you.
Norma from Texas.
No worries Norma.  I am feeling much better now after reading all these comments!  :)  -X-

JACKIE / GIMLI - May 25, 2006
Dear, dear Mister X,
My sincere condolences to you in the loss of a very amazing flake. And, alas, this has happened to me as well. The flake freezes then when it finally decides to give you a number, it is the previous flake number.
I have lost about 6 flakes to this cruel method of death. So much work, all for not!  But I just put my chin up, sighed and went back to the drawing board, knowing that I could never reproduce that same flake again. They really are one-of-a-kinds.
I would like to think there must be a heaven somewhere for all the lost flakes and they are happily fluttering around there.
Sincerely,  Jackie
Yes, it wouldn't seem so horrible if one could in fact "reproduce" the same flake again, but as you mentioned, they are all "one-of-a-kinds" and can never be made the same twice.  -X-

The SNOWQUEEN - May 26, 2006
My dearest X,
I am deeply saddened to hear that your woman/man "happy flake" suffered the fate that so many other snowflakes have.  It is a horrible thing to see the "previous number" on a snowflake that you love and wish to share!  But never fear, all of the snowflakes that are made by nice flakers come into my crystal garden - even ones with the same number.  : )
 -  The Snowqueen
Oh!  Maybe your Ice Crystal Garden is the "heaven" that Jackie mentioned above!  -X-

ETC / VT - May 26, 2006
Hi X,
I am saddened by the death of your happy flake.  It just made we want to reach out and hug him and there is now no one to hug.  :(  Such a pity as he would have made a great companion to your happy stick man flake.
Since you know I can slow myself down on a one cut, I'm rather surprised I've only completely frozen once.  The result was disastrous since the program simply ate my flake.  It made no effort to assign the next in sequence, or even reassign my last number.  It just vanished like an accidentally hit "reset" only on the send screen.  The conditions at the time were
heavy snowfall, so I only play catch if a lot of people are present, which still isn't a bad way to pass the time.
Happy Flaking,  ETC/VT
I have also had that happen to me.  POOF!  The flake is gone.  Then, while I am sitting at my desk with my mouth hanging open in astonishment, a new "Create your own flake" window will open by itself.  SPOOKY!!!  -X-

KALINA - May 26, 2006
Dear MisterX,
So sorry about the "Happy Flake" death.  It is a great flake with so much detail.  You described the gradual birth of the flake well so I used it to create my own mental animation; of course, nothing compares to seeing your flake in "real time" animation.  Also, with it on your website we are able to observe & appreciate your Happy Flake longer than we would if it had appeared on SnowDays.  I love looking at this flake right down to each hair follicle!  You have inspired me once again so now I must go & create...
See you on the flake side :)   Kalina
Oh yes, the animation would have been glorious, I am sure of that!  -X-

FIZZ - May 26, 2006
oh Dear, Dear "X"..
You have my deepest sympathies, I would say lost and gone forever, but you have captured him , so he is still alive..Just not floating with the masses.  Yes this has happened to me many times..although i have to say i have never spent 20 minutes, making one flake .LOL  Maybe there is a snowflake heaven for all the ones "That got away"..
Hugz Fizz :0)
We can only hope, Fizz, only hope!   -X-

INGRID / BRAZIL - May 26, 2006
Hi dear friend, sorry about your great loss!  Don't  worry therefore,  this has been a way to show us that even lost in snowflake sky you still can capture the flake and  keep it as a file .  I've also lost many faces and, in the same way as you have done, I capture them , if they're really good.  BTW, your happy flake is truly very good, would it be inspired in the author ???...
Happy flaking, see you at snowflakes'sky
 Warm hugs  from Ingrid
OMIGOSH, Ingrid!  I sincerely hope that I am better looking than this flake!!!  lol  -X-

JANET / UK - May 26, 2006
Hi there, you poor tormented soul!  Fancy having your face cut off in it's prime!! I am just so glad that you have been able to share it with us after all!! All that hard work should not go to waste and you know how much we all love your flakes!! I too have lost a few like that but didn't know I could have kept a copy!! You are just too clever!! FLAKE ON FRIEND --Janet--xx--
There are many great ways to capture your flakes!  I use the FREE program you can download HERE. The kewl thing with this particular program is that you set it up to capture the images with a single push of whatever key you choose, so it is always ready when you are!  (I use the F1 key!)  -X-

GLYNIS / AUSTRALIA - May 26, 2006
Hello Mr X... I thought I would drop you a note. I really love this flake it is brilliant...... in fact Xcellent :D I enjoy your site very much & have learned a great deal from it... but as far as flakes are concerned I'm only a beginner..... Cheers Glynis >> Australia
Hiya Glynis, great to hear from you.  We were ALL beginners at one time.  It doesn't last long though so enjoy your "flaky innocence" while you can!  ;)  -X-

HCMOM - May 26, 2006
We all know what really happened to him!  The SP were so consumed with jealousy that it wasn't enough to merely let you not finish him, they needed to destroy him entirely!!!
I do lose flakes sometimes, but I'm fairly sure it's my internet connection that's to blame, because it tends to fade in and out at times.  When it happens, I get the "Would you like to send it to some friends?" page, but there is no number at all.  The strange thing that happens to me is that sometimes, the flakes that are falling already open fall in negative, kinda.  And when they look like that, they fall like bricks.  If my reactions are fast enough to catch one, it turns normal as long as I hold on to it, but as soon as I let go it gets all weird again.
hcmom
That blank window with no number on it is probably NOT your internet connection.  That happens to many of us and I KNOW my internet connection is fast, reliable, and not to blame!  I also have had the "weird negative flakes" fall.  Sometimes they are my own that I just created.  Like you mentioned, if you are quick enough to catch them they will open properly.  I've also created a flake and when I watch it fall it is someone else's flake, but when I open it my flake appears.  Do you think the SP's may have recruited the Happy Flake?  That would be very depressing, lol!  -X-

JACKIE / PLYMOUTH - May 26, 2006
Oh X I must send my commiserations at the loss of your "Happy Flake". Such a sad end to a cheery little chap!!! As others have already said, at least you have been able to save his image so all is not lost. Some of my flakes have also suffered the same fate. I hope they are not all out there together floating around in limbo, but have found their way to a "Happy" place.
It always seems to happen to the flakes that you just know are going to turn out good, never the average ones!!!! I've heard a rumour that it is when the SP are on their tea break. They get annoyed at being interrupted and rather than bothering to put up their creative limit sign, they just delete the poor defenseless flake!!!!  Once again, my sympathies to poor little Happy flake and all those other poor flakes who have suffered the same fate.
Jackie (Plymouth)
ThanX Jackie!  I wonder if there is a way to sneak a large amount of sleeping pills into the SP's tea?  Just enough to send them to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital for a month or two?  -X-

ANON22 - May 27, 2006
Hello MisterX,
So sorry to learn of the demise of the Happy Flake.  Any loss is an emotional trauma, but to lose such a special flake may be devastating to your ability to create more happy flakes.  Perhaps you should try a Dancing Flake.  Yes, I have lost flakes and swore I would never come back to the site as it was so frustrating, but as you can see I am still here.  Do the people who run the site respond to complaints about the disasters on the site?
"Anon22"
LOL!  Well I am not quite sure if this was a "disaster", but must admit, it DID seem like it at the time of my GREAT loss!  Yes, the folks at Pop. Front do indeed respond to such things.  As I mentioned above though, they tend to have a "lot on their plate" at times.  We must all remember that Popular Front is a business, and naturally, like any other business, they are in it to make money.  Priorities MUST be to their paying customers/clients, who in turn, make it possible for Popular Front to run SNOWDAYS as a free and fun site for us all!  As I also mentioned, this page will be forwarded to them so they are aware of this irritating "glitch".  I'm sure they will attend to it when the chance arises to do so :)  -X-
------------------------------------------------------------------------
THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU to you ALL!
The "Happy Flake" got to live a wonderful life after all, and may not have "died" needlessly!
Hopefully, his cruel death will help other flakes LIVE a healthy SNOWDAYS life!  lol!!!
All the best to you...   -X-

Also, a big "THANX" to Popular Front, who keep SNOWDAYS running smoothly, and FREE, for many addicted flakers!  -X-
